Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Bias-Corrected Root Mean Square Deviation Estimators

open access: yesFoundations
The root mean square deviation (RMSD) is a widely used item fit statistic in item response models. However, the sample RMSD is known to exhibit positive bias in small samples. To address this, seven alternative bias-corrected RMSD estimators are proposed

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Use of differential item functioning (DIF) analysis for bias analysis in test construction

open access: yesSA Journal of Industrial Psychology, 2004
When differential item functioning (DIF) item analysis procedures based on item response theory (IRT) are used during test construction, it is possible to draw item characteristic curves for the same item for different subgroups.

A new method for detecting differential item functioning in the Rasch model [PDF]

open access: yes
Differential item functioning (DIF) can lead to an unfair advantage or disadvantage for certain subgroups in educational and psychological testing. Therefore, a variety of statistical methods has been suggested for detecting DIF in the Rasch model.

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Ethnic differential item functioning in the assessment of quality of life in cancer patients

open access: yesHealth and Quality of Life Outcomes, 2005
Background Past research has shown that Filipino cancer patients report lower levels of quality of life (QoL) than other ethnic groups. One possible explanation for this is that Filipinos do not define QoL in the same manner as others, resulting in bias ...

Pendekatan Regresi Logistik dalam Pendektesian DIF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Kegiatan pengukuran dalam bidang pendidikan sangat memerlukan suatu alat ukur yang mengukur sesuai dengan apa yang hendak diukur dan tidak terpengaruh faktor luar yang tidak diukur.
