S-type Negative Differential Resistance in Semiconducting Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides [PDF]
Current-controlled (also known as "S-type") negative differential resistance (NDR) is of crucial importance to many emerging applications including neuromorphic computing and high-density memristors integration. However, the experimental realization of S-type NDR based on conventional mechanisms poses demanding requirements on materials, which greatly ...

On-device synaptic memory consolidation using Fowler-Nordheim quantum-tunneling
IntroductionFor artificial synapses whose strengths are assumed to be bounded and can only be updated with finite precision, achieving optimal memory consolidation using primitives from classical physics leads to synaptic models that are too complex to ...

A Novel Exact Plate Theory for Bending Vibrations Based on the Partial Differential Operator Theory
Thick wall structures are usually applied at a highly reduced frequency. It is crucial to study the refined dynamic modeling of a thick plate, as it is directly related to the dynamic mechanical characteristics of an engineering structure or device ...

Tunneling in graphene-topological insulator hybrid devices [PDF]
Hybrid graphene-topological insulator (TI) devices were fabricated using a mechanical transfer method and studied via electronic transport. Devices consisting of bilayer graphene (BLG) under the TI Bi$_2$Se$_3$ exhibit differential conductance characteristics which appear to be dominated by tunneling, roughly reproducing the Bi$_2$Se$_3$ density of ...

Dynamics of a nano-scale rotor driven by single-electron tunneling [PDF]
We investigate theoretically the dynamics and the charge transport properties of a rod-shaped nano-scale rotor, which is driven by a similar mechanism as the nanomechanical single-electron transistor (NEMSET). We show that a static electric potential gradient can lead to self-excitation of oscillatory or continuous rotational motion.
