Natural differential privacy—a perspective on protection guarantees

open access: yesPeerJ Computer Science, 2023
We introduce “Natural” differential privacy (NDP)—which utilizes features of existing hardware architecture to implement differentially private computations. We show that NDP both guarantees strong bounds on privacy loss and constitutes a practical exception to no-free-lunch theorems on privacy.

Differentially Private Link Prediction with Protected Connections

open access: yesProceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2021
Link prediction (LP) algorithms propose to each node a ranked list of nodes that are currently non-neighbors, as the most likely candidates for future linkage. Owing to increasing concerns about privacy, users (nodes) may prefer to keep some of their connections protected or private. Motivated by this observation, our goal is to design a differentially

Protecting Your Shopping Preference With Differential Privacy

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2021
Online banks may disclose consumers’ shopping preferences due to various attacks. With differential privacy, each consumer can disturb his consumption amount locally before sending it to online banks. However, directly applying differential privacy in online banks will incur problems in reality because existing differential privacy schemes do not ...

A wavelet-based restricted earth-fault power transformer differential protection

open access: yesElectric power systems research, 2021
This paper proposes a restricted earth fault protection based on the wavelet transform (REFW) for detecting ground faults close to the transformer neutral point (turn-to-ground faults) and supporting the conventional phase differential protection, which ...

Differential Protection Scheme for Power Transformer Protection

open access: yes, 2021
Power transformers are normally protected by differential protection relays. Differential protection is the main protection used for protecting power transformers from internal faults only. External faults have the same effect on the two sets of current transformers used for differential protection.

All-optical differential current detection technique for unit protection applications

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper we demonstrate a novel, all-optical differential current protection scheme. By monitoring the optical power reflected from two matched hybrid fiber Bragg grating current sensors and using a simple optoelectronic threshold detector, an ...

Optimizing the roles of unit and non-unit protection methods within DC microgrids

open access: yes, 2012
The characteristic behavior of physically compact, multiterminal dc networks under electrical fault conditions can produce demanding protection requirements.

Serological Benefit of SARS‐CoV‐2 Vaccination Relative to Infection in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) are at risk of severe outcomes from SARS‐CoV‐2 (SCV2). In the post‐pandemic context, where most children have been infected with SCV2, there are limited data on whether vaccination remains beneficial in children with ALL.

Increased Risk of Sarcomas in Children With Congenital Anomalies: Findings From the Genetic Overlap Between Anomalies and Cancer in Kids (GOBACK) Registry Linkage Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that contribute disproportionately to cancer mortality in children. Although congenital anomalies are among the strongest known risk factors for childhood cancer, the risk of specific sarcoma subtypes among affected individuals has not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Procedure We

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.
