Electrically Tunable Diffraction Grating Based on Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvances in Condensed Matter Physics, 2018
A periodic electric field is generated in the grating-like electrodes cell by an applied voltage and results in the reorientation of liquid crystals. The linearly polarized probe beam experienced periodic distribution of refractive index and formed a ...

Interferometric Optical Pumping of an InGaN/GaN-Based Gain-Coupled Distributed Feedback Multi Quantum Well Laser

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
We describe an all-optical method to achieve—prior to further advanced processing steps—a perfect match of the relevant wavelength-sensitive parameters of an InGaN/GaN semiconductor distributed feedback laser.

Catalytically Enhanced Near Room‐Temperature Hydrogen Sensing Using Pd‐ZnO Colloidal Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pd‐decorated ZnO colloidal crystal monolayers demonstrate excellent performance across a wide hydrogen concentration range at 33°C, with high selectivity and reproducible device fabrication. The sensors show strong responses even at low‐ppm H2 concentrations and an ultra‐low detection limit of 82 ppb, indicating their suitability for diverse hydrogen ...

Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Optimal Design and Analysis of Wide-Band Near-Infrared Hybrid Dielectric Gratings with High Transmission Efficiency

open access: yesMicromachines
Since surface relief transmission gratings have very strict requirements on operators and use environment, according to the semiconductor laser external cavity spectral beam combining system, this paper proposes a design scheme for a semiconductor laser ...

Tailored Diketopyrrolopyrrole Derivatives for Efficient Deep‐Red Organic Lasers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tailored diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives exhibit high stable amplified spontaneous emission with single or dual bands. Incorporated into distributed‐feedback lasers based on one‐ and two‐dimensional dichromated‐gelatin diffractive gratings, these materials provide a robust, flexible platform for integrated organic deep‐red light sources. ABSTRACT Deep‐

Chemical Control of Space Charge Barriers and Grain Boundary Resistances in Polycrystalline Ionic Conductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundaries (GBs) in polycrystalline materials often block charge transport and drive degradation. Using Gd‐doped CeO2 as a model electrolyte used in fuel/electrolysis cells, we developed a core‐shell infiltration method to selectively modify GB chemistry and space charge potential, achieving orders‐of‐magnitude ionic conductivity changes.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.
