Short communication: Bifidobacterium abundance in the faecal microbiota is strongly associated with milk traits in dairy cattle

open access: yesAnimal
The performance of dairy cows is influenced by the microbial communities hosted within their digestive tract. While the rumen microbiota has long been associated with host phenotypes, the impact of the faecal microbiota remains elusive. In this study, we

A statistical approach to surface renewal: The virtual chamber concept

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment, 2021
In the stable conditions prevailing at night, concentrations of emitted gases (e.g., radon [Rn], carbon dioxide [CO2], methane [CH4], ammonia [NH3], and nitrous oxide [N2O]) build up at the surface, with intermittent interruptions due to the passage of ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Diffusion with restrictions

open access: yes, 1998
A non--linear diffusion equation is derived by taking into account hopping rates depending on the occupation of next neighbouring sites. There appears additonal repulsive and attractive forces leading to a changed local mobiltiy.

Sequence-based genome-wide association study reveals host genomic regions and candidate genes influencing the fecal microbiota of Holstein cows

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: In recent decades, the digestive tract microbiota of livestock has been extensively studied, revealing associations with host phenotypes, including production- and health-related traits.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Lessons from analysing mortality from six major flood events in France(1930-2010)

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2016
Evolution of flood mortality is complex as several opposite factors come into play. On one side, flood risk has been aggravated due to an increase of the number of inhabitants within the area at risk, and to an increasing of simple-storey houses without ...

Permafrost nitrous oxide emissions observed on a landscape scale using the airborne eddy-covariance method [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2019
The microbial by-product nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas and ozone depleting substance, has conventionally been assumed to have minimal emissions in permafrost regions. This assumption has been questioned by recent in situ studies which have

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.
