Background Conventional MRI provides important morphologic information regarding the brain and spinal cord involvement by demyelinating plaques. However, it is of almost no value in assessing the normal-appearing white matter which has been proved by ...

Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

Thermoelectric temperature sensors are developed that directly measure heat changes during optical‐based neural stimulation with millisecond precision. The sensors reveal the temperature windows for safe reversible neural modulation: 1.4–4.5 °C enables reversible neural inhibition, while temperatures above 6.1 °C cause permanent thermal damage.

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging and Diffusion Tensor Imaging [PDF]
Assessment of the integrity of the articular cartilage is considered key for the early diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA). Diffusion-weighted imaging and diffusion tensor imaging have potential as biomarkers for cartilage composition and structure. The value of diffusion to detect compositional and structural changes in the cartilage matrix has been ...

The pyrene and ether groups are incorporated into the covalent triazine polymer (CTP) structure. The synergistic effect of the two functional groups endows CTP with better electron transfer, light absorption, and oxygen activation properties. An impressive apparent quantum yield (13.2% @420 nm) and a remarkable solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency ...

Diffusion tensor imaging: Structural adaptive smoothing
Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data is characterized by a high noise level. Thus, estimation errors of quantities like anisotropy indices or the main diffusion direction used for fiber tracking are relatively large and may significantly confound the accuracy of DTI in clinical or neuroscience applications.
