An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

CCN1 promotes APRIL/BAFF signaling in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma but attenuates it in esophageal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
CCN1 is a matricellular protein highly expressed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) but hardly detectable in esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). Expression of CCN1 in EAC cells leads to TRAIL-mediated apoptosis.

Gut microbiome and metabolome signatures in liver cirrhosis-related complications [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Molecular Hepatology
Background/Aims Shifts in the gut microbiota and metabolites are interrelated with liver cirrhosis progression and complications. However, causal relationships have not been evaluated comprehensively.

Treatment of achalasia with peroral endoscopic myotomy in situs inversus totalis

open access: yesDEN Open, 2022
Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has become established as a safe, effective, and versatile minimally invasive endoscopic treatment for achalasia and other esophageal motility disorders. Situs inversus totalis is a rare congenital disorder characterized

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Deficiency of SIAH1 promotes the formation of filopodia by increasing the accumulation of FASN in liver cancer

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
It has been shown that the formation of filopodia is a key step in tumor cell metastasis, but there is limited research regarding its mechanism. In this study, we demonstrated that fatty acid synthase (FASN) promoted filopodia formation in liver cancer ...

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses
