SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Genetic and genomic approaches for the discovery of parasite genes involved in antimalarial drug resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The biggest threat to the war on malaria is the continued evolution of drug resistance by the parasite. Resistance to almost all currently available antimalarials now exists in Plasmodium falciparum which causes the most suffering among all human malaria

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

Functions of METTL1/WDR4 and QKI as m7G modification - related enzymes in digestive diseases

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
N7-methylguanosine (m7G) modification is one of the most prevalent forms of chemical modification in RNA molecules, which plays an important role in biological processes such as RNA stability, translation regulation and ribosome recognition.

Effect of celery (Apium graveolens) extract on the growth, haematology, immune response and digestive enzyme activity of common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

open access: yesMarine Science and Technology Bulletin, 2018
In this study, the effect of a dietary supplementation of Apium graveolens on growth performance, digestive enzyme activities and immune response of juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were evaluated. C. carpio, with an average weight at the beginning

Planktothricoides-dominated blooms drive abnormal lipid metabolism and pathogens enrichment in the intestine of Eriocheir sinensis

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis, CMC) is of significant economic importance to China's aquatic industry. However, the prevalence of Planktothricoides-dominated cyanobacterial blooms (CBs) pose a substantial threat to this aquaculture sector ...

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...
