Biochemical properties of digestive proteases of melon ladybird, Epilachna chrysomelina (Fabricius) (Col.: Coccinellidae) [PDF]
Melon ladybird, Epilachna chrysomelina (Fabricius) (Col.: Coccinellidae)is a major pest of cucurbitaceous plants by feeding on leaves at larval and adult stages.

Enzyme activity below the dynamical transition at 220K [PDF]
Enzyme activity requires the activation of anharmonic motions, such as jumps between potential energy wells. However, in general, the forms and time scales of the functionally important anharmonic dynamics coupled to motion along the reaction coordinate ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Fish Digestive Capacity: Definition and Methods
The nutritional value of a diet and its bioavailability in fish depend on three primary capacities: (a) ingestion, (b) digestion, and (c) absorption. Among these, digestive capacity, defined here as the total enzyme activity available to hydrolyze the ...

Enzyme activity and dynamics in near-anhydrous conditions [PDF]
Water is widely assumed to be essential for life 1, although the exact molecular basis of this requirement is unclear 2-4. Water facilitates protein motions 5-9 and although enzyme activity has been demonstrated at low hydrations in organic solvents 10 ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Digestive enzymes of vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus) as potential targets for insect control strategies. [PDF]
Over the previous quarter century the vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus) has become a pest of horticultural and agricultural plants. The vine weevil is a polyphagous coleopteran insect and is able to attack over one hundred different plant species.
