Digital Holographic Microscopy in Veterinary Medicine—A Feasibility Study to Analyze Label-Free Leukocytes in Blood and Milk of Dairy Cows [PDF]

open access: yesAnimals
For several years, the determination of a differential cell count of a raw milk sample has been proposed as a more accurate tool for monitoring the udder health of dairy cows compared with using the absolute somatic cell count.

Automated Quantification and Statistical Characterization of 3D Morphological Parameters of Red Blood Cells and Blood Coagulation Structures Using Flow Cytometry with Digital Holographic Microscopy

open access: yesPhotonics
Label-free, high-throughput, and 3D morphological analysis of blood cells remains a major challenge in biomedical optics. In this study, we investigate this issue using flow cytometry with digital holographic microscopy (DHM) to enable real-time, label ...

Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Exhibit Low Cytotoxic and Inflammatory Properties in Macrophages In Vitro

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) against sialic acid (SA) have been developed as a detection tool to target cancer cells. Before proceeding to in vivo studies, a better knowledge of the overall effects of MIPs on the innate immune system is needed ...

Digital Holographic Microscopy for Label-Free Detection of Leukocyte Alternations Associated with Perioperative Inflammation after Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesCells, 2022
In a prospective observational pilot study on patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass, we evaluated label-free quantitative phase imaging (QPI) with digital holographic microscopy (DHM) to describe perioperative ...

Flipping Interferometric Module for Simultaneous Dual-Wavelength Unwrapping of Quantitative Phase Maps of Biological Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
We present an imaging platform for stain-free quantitative imaging of biological cells using a simultaneous dual-wavelength holographic module. We use this module to experimentally solve the problem of 2π phase ambiguities that occurs in spatial ...

Erythrocyte volumetric measurements in imaging flow cytometry using simultaneous three-wavelength digital holographic microscopy

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2020
We report a cross-talk free simultaneous three-wavelength digital holographic microscopy setup for spectroscopic imaging of biological cells during flow. The feasibility of the proposed measurement technique is demonstrated on erythrocytes, due to their unique morphology and dependency of hemoglobin (Hb) molecule absorption on wavelength.

Deep learning with digital holographic microscopy discriminates apoptosis and necroptosis

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2021
Regulated cell death modalities such as apoptosis and necroptosis play an important role in regulating different cellular processes. Currently, regulated cell death is identified using the golden standard techniques such as fluorescence microscopy and ...

Large field-of-view quantitative phase imaging flow cytometry using low coherence SLD based digital holographic microscopy [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
We present a cost-effective quantitative phase imaging flow cytometry system that utilizes a low-coherence super luminescent diode (SLD) as the illumination source for off-axis digital holographic microscopy (DHM), enabling label-free imaging of ...
