Poverty, Literacy, and Social Transformation: An Interdisciplinary Exploration of the Digital Divide

open access: yesJournal of Media Literacy Education, 2018
Harnessing scholarship focused on literacy and poverty, in this article we aim to complicate the common understanding of the digital divide. First, we argue that the dominant literature on the digital divide misses broader connections between ...

Bioengineered Interfaces for Peripheral Nerve Sensory Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Half of amputees abandon their prosthetics for lack of feeling. This review charts the full path from peripheral nerve injury to restored sensation, through surgical, regenerative, noninvasive, and implanted approaches, and shows how injury type and interface material properties determine which strategy can deliver naturalistic feedback, and why ...

COMMENTARY: THE PROMISE OF DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP IN SLA RESEARCH AND LANGUAGE PEDAGOGY [PDF]

open access: yesLanguage Learning and Technology, 2007
Although digital scholarship is now well established in academia, there is no consensus about how it should be evaluated for tenure and promotion. Is digital publication acceptable as a way to disseminate research? Is the digital medium appropriate for

Inductively Expandable Supraparticles as Microscopic Force Generators for Remote Mechanical Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the combination of magnetic nanoparticles and functional blowing agents into supraparticles. Upon induction heating, they actuate via rapid gas generation or extensive volume expansion. These supraparticles lift up to 25 000 times their own mass and rapidly open cured epoxy resins, providing a versatile strategy for fast micron ...

Multi‐Biomimetic Structural Colors Inspired by Pearls and Bird Feathers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐biomimetic strategy mimicking pearls and bird feathers is proposed to construct full‐gamut structural colors. By integrating a non‐strictly periodic inorganic multilayer architecture with tunable light absorbers, this facile approach circumvents the complex fabrication of traditional 1D photonic crystals, offering immense potential for cosmetics,

Degradable Magnetic Composites from Recycled NdFeB Magnets for Soft Actuation and Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a degradable soft magnetic composite made from recycled NdFeB particles embedded in a gelatin‐based organogel. The material is processed into magnetic sensors and soft robotic components, which can later be dissolved in a green solvent to recover NdFeB magnetic particles.
