Photodynamic Therapy for Superficial Esophageal Cancer Using an Excimer Dye Laser

open access: yesDiagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 99-105, 1994., 1994
In order to improve the therapeutic effectiveness of photodynamic therapy with Photofrin II and laser light for superficial esophageal cancer, we employed an excimer dye laser instead of an argon dye laser. Eight superficial esophageal cancer lesions (7 cases) were treated.

Photodynamic therapy: A promising new modality for the treatment of cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The first reports on photodynamic therapy (PDT) date back to the 1970s. Since then, several thousands of patients, both with early stage and advanced stage solid tumours, have been treated with PDT and many claims have been made regarding its efficacy ...

In vitro characterization of monoaspartyl chlorin e\u3csub\u3e6\u3c/sub\u3e and diaspartyl chlorin e\u3csub\u3e6\u3c/sub\u3e for photodynamic therapy

open access: yes, 1988
The characteristics of two new chlorin photosensitizers were studied in cell culture by determining phototoxicity, subcellular localization, and photophysical properties.

Photodynamic methods for fluorescence diagnosis and therapy of photosensitized tumors.

open access: yes, 1992
Several substances, e.g., hematoporphyrin derivatives (HpD), dihematoporphyrin ether/ester (DHE), phthalocyanines, porphycenes, and other drugs are known to be temporarily and selectively stored in tumors after systematic application.

Differential effect of Photofrin II on growth of human smooth muscle cells from nonatherosclerotic arteries and atheromatous plaques in vitro.

open access: yes, 1990
The effect of dihematoporphyrin-ester or -ether (DHE), a photosensitizing porphyrin with different amounts of aggregates, on the growth of cultured smooth muscle cells obtained from nonatherosclerotic arteries and from atheromatous plaques (primary ...

Photodynamic therapy for endobronchial malignant disease: A prospective fourteen-year study

open access: yes, 1997
Background: After intravenous injection, the photosensitizer dihematoporphyrin ether is selectively retained in tumor cells. This photosensitizer absorbs 630 nm wavelength light energy and produces a singlet oxygen that destroys the tumor.

Effect of low energy argon laser and dihematoporphyrin ether on the growth, viability, and catecholamine production of C1300 murine neuroblastoma cells in vitro

open access: yes, 1988
Low power laser induced fluorescence of dihematoporphyrin ether (DHE, photofrin 2) is used to detect cancer. The goal was to determine the effect of low power argon laser light and DHE on C-1300 murine neuroblastoma cells (MNB, NB41A3).

Statistics of Photon Paths in Tissue During Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The rapid development of the use of lasers in therapeutic and diagnostic medicine in the past few years has generated interest in measuring the optical properties of tissue.
