Dihydropyridine precursors of elastin crosslinks
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1978Dihydrodesmosine and dihydroisodemosine are dihydropyridines which are believed to be the immediate biosynthetic precursors of desmosine and isodesmosine, the stable pyridinium ion crosslinks of elastin. It has recently been reported that appreciably amounts of dihydrodesmosine and dihydroisodesmosine accumulate in elastin.

Dihydropyridines As Antihypertensive Agents
1986Vascular smooth muscle tone is increased by inward transmembrane flux of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent and receptor-operated channels, as well as from intracellular stores. Calcium entry blockers selectively and reversibly reduce the influx of Ca2+ into the cell through the cell membrane and from bound sites within the cell.
