ENZYMATIC DECARBOXYLATION OF 2,6- AND 2,3-DIHYDROXYPHENYLALANINE [PDF]
The action of dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) decarboxylase of guinea pig kidney and of tyrosine decarboxylase of Streptococcus faecalis R on 2,3- and 2,6-dopa has been studied. Compared with 3,4-dopa, these substrates are decarboxylated by the kidney enzyme at rates decreasing in the order: 2,3-, 3,4-, 2,6-dopa.

An actinomycete producing L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine from L-tyrosine [PDF]
An actinomycete was isolated during a soil screening programme to obtain L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine producers. A mutant of this organism was isolated by chemical mutagenesis and it accumulated 1 g/litre L-dihydroxyphenylalanine when grown on L-tyrosine.

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1963EVIDENCE has been accumulating for the past several years which has implicated dopamine metabolism in the production of extrapyramidal symptoms. Drugs such as reserpine which tend to produce extrapyramidal symptoms as a side effect have been shown to deplete dopamine from the brain.
