Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Piper spp. Volatile Oils That Inhibit Pathogenic Microorganisms

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.

Hypoxia Induces a Mitotic Survival Advantage After Radiotherapy in Head and Neck Cancer Cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Hypoxic tumor environments significantly limit radiotherapy effectiveness against cancer, particularly in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, the authors tracked hypoxic and post‐hypoxic cells using a hypoxia‐fate mapping system in human papillomavirus (HPV)‐positive and HPV‐negative HNSCC models.

Topical Absorption of Polypeptides With Dimethylsulfoxide

open access: yes, 1966
The effects of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) upon the topical absorption of vasopressin and adrenocorticotropin (corticotropin) in the rat and melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH) in the frog were investigated.

New Hydrazone Derivatives Featuring Isatin and Piperazine Moieties: Synthesis, Cytotoxicity Evaluation, and Molecular Modeling Studies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, ten novel compounds (IPH1–IPH10) were designed by integrating three pharmacophores (isatin, piperazine, and hydrazone) commonly found in the molecular structures of anticancer agents. The target molecules were obtained by the reaction of in‐house prepared 4‐(4‐(pyridin/pyrimidin‐2‐yl)piperazin‐1‐yl)benzohydrazide with various ...

Large‐Scale Evaluation of Traditional Chinese Medicines Reveals Potential PPARγ Modulators for Type 2 Diabetes Management

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Identifying novel treatments for diabetic management is always a competitive research topic all over the world. PPAR‐γ is one of the key regulators involved in glucose and lipid metabolism and improves insulin sensitivity and glucose homeostasis. This study investigated the impacts of 639 traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on PPAR‐γ gene promoter ...

Characterization of functional metabolites in broccoli by‐product using green extraction with supercritical fluids

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The present study aimed to valorize broccoli by‐products (leaves and stems) through the extraction of bioactive compounds using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE). The influence of broccoli variety, plant part and maturation stage on total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity and antimicrobial properties was evaluated ...
