Dihydrostilbene phytoalexins from Dioscorea rotundata
Phytochemistry, 1987Abstract 2′,3-Dihydroxy-5-methoxybibenzyl (Batatasin IV), its demethyl derivative and 3,5-dihydroxybibenzyl (dihydropinosylvin) were isolated only from flesh of Dioscorea rotundata infected with Botryodiplodia theobromae and may therefore be considered phytoalexins.

Studies on the relationship of Dioscorea cayenensis and Dioscorea rotundata cultivars
Euphytica, 1986Two numerical taxonomic techniques, single linkage cluster analysis (SLCA) and principal components analysis (PCA) were used to study the relationship between Dioscorea cayenensis and D. rotundata cultivars. The study was prompted by the confusion in the taxonomy of the two taxa. Twenty-two cultivars (14 of D. rotundata and 8 of D.

Studies on Dioscorea rotundata Starch Properties
Starch - Stärke, 1989AbstractStarch from six clonal selections of Dioscorea rotundata was isolated by standard procedure. The yield was between 20–24%. Various properties of these starches were compared. Granule size, 2% viscosity, peak viscosity, clarity, sol stability, total and soluble amylose contents were studied and only small variations were observed in the ...

Axillary proliferation and tuberisation of Dioscorea cayenensis–D. rotundata complex
Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture, 2007Yams (Dioscorea spp) are tuber crops used as staple food in Africa because of their nutritional value. However agronomic constraints, phytosanitary problems and the lack of good healthy planting material restrict their production. In contrast to the inefficiency of traditional method of planting, tissue culture techniques allow to increase the ...

Purification and Characterization of Invertase Inhibitors fromDioscorea RotundataTuber
Journal of Enzyme Inhibition, 1992Three invertase inhibitors (A), (B) and (C) from Dioscorea rotundata tuber were resolved on DEAE-cellulose ion exchanger. Two of the inhibitors, (B) and (C), were proteins and homogenous on polyacrylamide gels Mr 21,000 +/- 85 and 26,982 +/- 40/36,307 +/- 50 respectively.

In vitro tuberization in white yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir)
Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture, 1988Nodal cuttings of white yam were induced to produce microtubers on a MS-revised medium supplemented with various concentrations of sucrose, 20 mgl−1 L-cysteine, 0.5 mgl−1 kinetin and 0.7% agar. The frequency of tuberization was affected by the daylength, which is optimal at 12 and 16 h of light depending on the sucrose concentration.

Journal of Food Engineering, 2007
Abstract Effects of pretreatment and drying conditions on yam varieties, namely Dioscorea alata and Dioscorea rotundata , in a fabricated laboratory scale hot air drier at temperature range of 50–80 °C and constant air velocity of 1.5 m 2 /s were investigated. Mass transfer during air-drying of yam slices was described using Fick’s diffusion model.

Numerical analysis of variation among Nigerian Dioscorea rotundata accessions
Euphytica, 1986In order to identify the major characters which account for variation among Dioscorea rotundata, 14 high yielding accessions were studied using Single Linkage Cluster Analysis (SLCA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The accessions were planted under the same environmental conditions for 3 years.
