Diphosphonate Treatment of Paget??s Disease
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1976Ethane-1-hydroxy-1, 1-diphosphonate (EHDP) was administered in a dose of 20 mg/kg/d to 21 patients with symptomatic Paget's disease. All patients were treated for 6 months and then followed for an additional 6 months. There was a striking decline in serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxy-proline excretion observed after 3 months of therapy ...

DIPHOSPHONATES AND PAGET'S DISEASE OF BONE
The Lancet, 1971Abstract The diphosphonate, CH 3 C(OH)(PO 3 HNa) 2 (disodium etidronate), has been given at a daily oral dose of 20 mg. per kg. body-weight to 4 patients with biochemically active Paget's disease. The increased alkaline phosphatase in plasma and the increased hydroxyproline in plasma and urine fell steadily to about half their initial value after ...

99MTc-diphosphonate uptake in neuroblastoma
American Journal of Roentgenology, 1976Marked uptake of 99mTc-diphosphonate was noted in an extraadrenal neuroblastoma. Calcification was not demonstrable on radiographic or light microscopic examination, nor was crystalline material identified on electron microscopic examination; capillaries in the lesion appeared to be intact.

The Orthopaedic Implications of Diphosphonate Therapy
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon, 2010Diphosphonates are among the many commonly prescribed drugs for osteoporosis management. These synthetic analogues of physiologically occurring inorganic pyrophosphate bind to the hydroxyapatite crystals of bone. Diphosphonates act by decreasing the amount of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption by inducing apoptosis and disrupting the mevalonate ...

Diphosphates and diphosphonates in polyoxometalate chemistry
Chemical Society Reviews, 2012In the wide area of polyoxometalate (POM) chemistry, diphosphate/diphosphonate-based POMs represent a more recent area of study. However, in this short time it has emerged to become very dynamic, as shown by the wide variety of compounds reported. Ever since the discovery of the first polyoxotungstate framework constructed from diphosph(on)ate ligands,

Metabolic Effects of Diphosphonate in Primary Hyperparathyroidism
The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1977Six patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and one with squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus with parathyroid hormone excess received disodium ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonate (EHDP) at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg orally. During treatment, the decrease in urinary calcium, total urinary hydroxyproline, and fasting urinary calcium suggested ...

Benign myocardial uptake of hydroxymethylene diphosphonate
Nuclear Medicine Communications, 1994During 'routine' bone scanning with diphosphonates, 10 elderly men were noted to show prominent myocardial uptake of Tc-hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HDP) consistently, but no heart activity was seen with Tc-methylene disphosphonate (MDP). None had evidence of recent myocardial injury and the uptake persisted over a period of many months.

Skeletal uptake of diphosphonate: A review
European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1980The diphosphonates are currently the skeletal imaging agents of choice and while extremely sensitive for bony abnormality their mechanism of action remains poorly understood. The current concepts in bone uptake mechanisms are reviewed and it is concluded that diphosphonate uptake is most likely related to sites of newly forming bone with diphosphonate ...
