USING SIMPLEX GRADIENTS OF NONSMOOTH FUNCTIONS IN DIRECT SEARCH METHODS

open access: yes, 2008
It has been shown recently that the efficiency of direct search methods that use opportunistic polling in positive spanning directions can be improved significantly by reordering the poll directions according to descent indicators built from simplex ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

A High-Precision Acquisition Algorithm for DSSS Signals in Low CNR Scenarios Using 2-D Parallel Fuzzy Logic Control

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper proposes a fast, high-precision acquisition algorithm based on two-dimensional parallel fuzzy logic (FL) control for direct sequence spread spectrum signals in Lunar-Earth telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) scenarios with high ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Direct position determination of moving targets based on DOA

open access: yesElectronics Letters
Compared with the traditional two‐step localization methods, the direct position determination (DPD) method is more robust at low signal‐to‐noise ratio.

Application of optimization algorithms in the design of a superconducting A.C. generator rotor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The superconducting a.c. generator is expected to be the optimum choice among a.c. generation systems in future because of its reduced size, high efficiency, high terminal voltage and its contribution to the stability of the power system.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Boosting Performance of SVM in Koi Classification Using Direct Methods-Based Optimization

open access: yesJOIV: International Journal on Informatics Visualization
Many koi fish enthusiasts keep or buy them just for their attractive colors without knowing what type of koi fish they are. The manual classification of koi fish species is still frequently incorrect.

Immigrant Job Search in the UK [PDF]

open access: yes
Most immigrant groups in the UK experience higher unemployment rates than otherwise similar UK born whites. Empirical research to date has attributed this finding to discrimination, lack of English Language fluency and the (non-) transferability of ...
