How to use: The direct antiglobulin test in newborns
The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) detects the presence of immunoglobulin, complement or both bound to the red blood cell membrane. The test, historically called the ‘ Coombs test ’ , was first described in 1945 by Cambridge immunologist Robin Coombs ...

Positive direct antiglobulin test in post-artesunate delayed haemolysis: more than a coincidence?
Background Delayed haemolysis is a frequent adverse event after treatment with artesunate (AS). Removing once-infected “pitted” erythrocytes by the spleen is the most accepted mechanism of haemolysis in these cases. However, an increasing number of cases

ABSTRACT This retrospective study aimed to explore the value of DAT‐FAT serological profiles confirmed by AET in classifying neonatal jaundice, evaluating its severity, and guiding clinical management. A total of 915 jaundiced newborns (584 pathological, 331 physiological) admitted from July 2018 to August 2021 were included.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension with autoimmune hemolytic anemia: A rare association
Background: Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is an acquired form of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. Association of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) has been observed with iron deficiency anemia, parvovirus B-19 associated anemia, and ...

ABSTRACT Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare hematologic disorder caused by a defect of glycosylphosphatidyl‐anchored proteins, leading to an uncontrolled complement‐mediated hemolysis. The advent of complement inhibitors in clinical practice radically changed patients' outcomes and survival.

DIRECT ANTIGLOBULIN TEST IN MICROHEMAGGLUTIONATION METHOD AND TUBE TEST METHOD
Uvod: Direktni antiglobulinski test koristi se za detekciju in vivo senzibiliziranih eritrocita. Dio je dijagnostičkih ispitivanja u hemolitičkoj transfuzijskoj reakciji, hemolitičkoj bolesti novorođenčadi i u autoimunim te lijekovima induciranim ...

Blood Cell Counts and the Duffy Null Phenotype: Beyond Neutropenia
ABSTRACT The absence of Duffy antigen expression on red blood cells, caused by a single nucleotide polymorphism in the DARC/ACKR1 gene, confers protection against malaria and is associated with lower absolute neutrophil counts (ANC) in some studied populations.

Evaluation of point‐of‐care versus laboratory antiglobulin‐enhanced major crossmatch testing in cats
Objectives It is recommended that all cats, regardless of transfusion history, undergo major crossmatch prior to blood product administration to decrease the likelihood of immunological transfusion reactions. A reliable and user‐friendly point‐of‐care crossmatch test would help make crossmatch testing more accessible.
