The Coombs direct antiglobulin test in Kenyans

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1983
The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) was performed on 243 subjects in Kenya. A high incidence of positive DAT was found in children with malaria of whom 70% had RBCs coated with IgG, C3 and C4 either separately or together. Only 12% of paediatric patients with conditions other than malaria had a positive DAT.

Positive Direct Coombs Tests with Anti‐IgA Antiserum

Vox Sanguinis, 1970
Abstract. Six patients with hemolytic anemia were found to have positive direct antiglobulin tests with antisera to IgA, in addition to positive reactions with anti‐IgG, ‐IgM or C3 antisera. Absorption studies suggest that IgA exists as a complex with other immunoglobulins.

Positive direct Coombs' tests associated with cephaloridine therapy.

JAMA, 1970
Six (8%) of 75 patients treated with cephaloridine developed a positive direct Coombs' test (DCT). Five of the six were receiving the maximum dose used (4 gm/day) and all were older than the age of 47 years. Positivity was most related to duration of therapy and total dose of drug administered.

[Direct Coombs' test in the aged].

Acta medica Austriaca, 1984
Blood samples from 431 persons (age: 78 to 99 years) were examined by the direct anti-human-globulin test (d. AHGT ) with polyspecific and monospecific antisera. Three antibody-mediated positive d. AHGT were found. There was no increase in non antibody-mediated positive complement Coombs reactions in healthy persons of high age.
