Direct absorption imaging of ultracold polar molecules
We demonstrate a scheme for direct absorption imaging of an ultracold ground-state polar molecular gas near quantum degeneracy. A challenge in imaging molecules is the lack of closed optical cycling transitions.

High-Contrast Imaging: Hide and Seek with Exoplanets
So far, most of the about 5700 exoplanets have been discovered mainly with radial velocity and transit methods. These techniques are sensitive to planets in close orbits, not being able to probearge star–planet separations.

Direct electric field imaging of graphene defects
Imaging chemical bonding states in defective graphene is important to determine its functional properties. Here, the authors report triangular and rectangular atomic electric fields in monolayer graphene induced by silicon as imaged by differential phase

Direct Ultraviolet Imaging and Spectroscopy of Betelgeuse
Direct images of Betelgeuse were obtained over a span of 4 years with the Faint Object Camera on the Hubble Space Telescope. These images reveal the extended ultraviolet continuum emission (about 2 times the optical diameter), the varying overall ...

Optically gated beating-heart imaging [PDF]
The constant motion of the beating heart presents an obstacle to clear optical imaging, especially 3D imaging, in small animals where direct optical imaging would otherwise be possible.

The distance between two point light sources is difficult to estimate if that distance is below the diffraction (Rayleigh's) resolution limit of the imaging device. A recently proposed technique enhances the precision of this estimation by exploiting the

A new sub-stellar companion around the young star HD 284149
Even though only a handful of sub-stellar companions have been found via direct imaging, each of these discoveries has had a tremendous impact on our understanding of the star formation process and the physics of cool atmospheres.
