Global optimal control with the direct multiple shooting method
SummaryWe propose to solve global optimal control problems with a new algorithm that is based on Bock's direct multiple shooting method. We provide conditions and numerical evidence for a significant overall runtime reduction compared to the standard single shooting approach.

Mathematical Modelling, Simulation, and Optimal Control of the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in West Africa
The Ebola virus is currently one of the most virulent pathogens for humans. The latest major outbreak occurred in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia in 2014. With the aim of understanding the spread of infection in the affected countries, it is crucial to

A Crane Overload Protection Controller for Blade Lifting Operation Based on Model Predictive Control
Lifting is a frequently used offshore operation. In this paper, a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) scheme is proposed to overcome the sudden peak tension and snap loads in the lifting wires caused by lifting speed changes in a wind turbine blade

Low-Thrust Lyapunov to Lyapunov and Halo to Halo with $L^2$-Minimization [PDF]
In this work, we develop a new method to design energy minimum low-thrust missions (L2-minimization). In the Circular Restricted Three Body Problem, the knowledge of invariant manifolds helps us initialize an indirect method solving a transfer mission ...

Direct optimal control for time-delay systems via a lifted multiple shooting algorithm
<p style='text-indent:20px;'>Aiming at efficient solution of optimal control problems for continuous nonlinear time-delay systems, a multiple shooting algorithm with a lifted continuous Runge-Kutta integrator is proposed. This integrator is in implicit form to remove the restriction of smaller integration step sizes compared with delays.

Fast Direct Multiple Shooting Algorithms for Optimal Robot Control [PDF]
In this overview paper, we first survey numerical approaches to solve nonlinear optimal control problems, and second, we present our most recent algorithmic developments for real-time optimization in nonlinear model predictive control. In the survey part, we discuss three direct optimal control approaches in detail: (i) single shooting, (ii) collocation,

Ascent trajectory optimisation for a single-stage-to-orbit vehicle with hybrid propulsion [PDF]
This paper addresses the design of ascent trajectories for a hybrid-engine, high performance, unmanned, single-stage-to-orbit vehicle for payload deployment into low Earth orbit. A hybrid optimisation technique that couples a population-based, stochastic
