Development of in-plane SS316 to M300 maraging steel gradients via directed energy deposition

open access: yes, 2022
The development of functionally graded materials via powder-based directed energy deposition is of interest to fabricate metallic aerospace components with tailored spatial properties.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Powder flow and deposition profile in directed energy deposition with discrete coaxial injection [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
This study explores the effects of powder injection angle and substrate inclination on powder flow characteristics and deposition profiles in Directed Energy Deposition (DED) using a discrete coaxial nozzle.

Blown powder directed energy deposition on various substrate conditions

open access: yes, 2022
Blown powder directed energy deposition of SS316L powder is carried out on various substrate surface conditions of SS304 such as cleaned, sand blasted, milled, oily, cold galvanised and painted to study their influence on the process.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Directed energy deposition of γ/γ' Co–Al–W superalloys

open access: yes, 2022
In this study, Co-Al-W superalloys forming γ/γ' microstructures were fabricated by laser-directed energy deposition and investigated with respect to their susceptibility to hot-cracking during manufacturing.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

In-process spectroscopic detection of chromium loss during Directed Energy Deposition of alloy 718

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
In this work, a fast optical spectrometer was used to monitor the Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process, during the deposition of Alloy 718 samples with different laser power, thus different energy inputs into the material.

Computer-Aided Process Planning for Wire Arc Directed Energy Deposition

open access: yes, 2019
Wire arc directed energy deposition provides a rapid and cost-effective method for fabricating low-to-medium complexity and medium-to-large size metal parts. However, the complex nonequilibrium phase transformations, inherent to this process, make it a

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.
