Adaptive Harmony Search for Tuned Liquid Damper Optimization under Seismic Excitation
In this study, the tuned liquid damper (TLD) device was optimized by the harmony search (HS) and adaptive harmony search algorithms (AHS). Using the harmony search algorithm, seismic excitations were directed at single and ten-story structures, and TLD ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Directed search with stochastic resetting and multiple objectives
In the present study, the dynamic growth and contraction behavior of nucleated cells in source cells can be simulated as a mathematical process that combines elements such as directed search, stochastic resetting and delay.

Spiral search: a hydrophobic-core directed local search for simplified PSP on 3D FCC lattice
Background Protein structure prediction is an important but unsolved problem in biological science. Predicted structures vary much with energy functions and structure-mapping spaces.

Direction-optimizing Breadth-First Search [PDF]
Breadth-First Search is an important kernel used by many graph-processing applications. In many of these emerging applications of BFS, such as analyzing social networks, the input graphs are low-diameter and scale-free. We propose a hybrid approach that is advantageous for low-diameter graphs, which combines a conventional top-down algorithm along with

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Search Computing Challenges and Directions [PDF]
Search Computing (SeCo) is a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC). It focuses on building the answers to complex search queries like "Where can I attend an interesting conference in my field close to a sunny beach?" by interacting with a constellation of cooperating search services, using ranking and joining of results as the dominant ...
