Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hall Universal Group as a Direct Limit of Algebraic Groups

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 1997
The Hall universal group \(U\), discovered by Philip Hall some forty years ago, is the unique countable locally finite group that contains copies of every finite group such that any two copies of the same finite group in \(U\) are conjugate. \(U\) is usually constructed as a direct limit of symmetric groups. The authors discuss ways in which \(U\) is a

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Geminal group-directed olefinic C-H functionalization via four- to eight-membered exo-metallocycles

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Identifying distinct cyclometallation pathways is essential to new types of C-H activation and functionalization in organic synthesis. Here, the authors show the activation of an olefinic C-H bond geminal to the directing group via four- to eight ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Diversity-Oriented Synthesis through Rh-Catalyzed Selective Transformations of a Novel Multirole Directing Group

open access: yes, 2015
In the context of transition-metal-catalyzed CH functionalization, directing-group strategy was developed for the improvement of chemical reactivity and selectivity. Recently, to avoid the inherent limitations of traditional mono-role directing groups, a
