Directional Overcurrent Relays Coordination Scheme for Protection of Microgrid
2020 IEEE First International Conference on Smart Technologies for Power, Energy and Control (STPEC), 2020The changes in operating states of microgrid cause significant variations in fault currents that may affect the coordination of directional over current relays (DOCRs). In this paper, an adaptive protection scheme is proposed for coordination of DOCRs in microgrids having two connection points with external grid.

Planning the coordination of directional overcurrent relays for distribution systems considering DG
2016 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2016Introduction of distributed generation (DG) to the power system may lead to nonselective protection actions. For every future DG installation, the relay settings need to be modified to guarantee protection coordination that can lead to numerous changes in relay settings.

PBILApplied to Optimal Directional Overcurrent Relay Coordination:Effect of Learning Rate
2019 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence (SSCI), 2019Conventional relay coordination philosophy does not take into consideration all the system conditions and configurations in the fault analysis. Therefore, relay settings should be reviewed whenever there is a significant change in system conditions to ensure that they are still valid.

Directional overcurrent relays
2011Directional overcurrent protection is used when it is necessary to protect the system against fault currents that could circulate in both directions through a system element, and when bidirectional overcurrent protection could produce unnecessary disconnection of circuits.

Hybrid optimization algorithm for directional overcurrent relay coordination
2014 IEEE PES General Meeting | Conference & Exposition, 2014This work presents a method for directional overcurrent relay (DOR) coordination in a meshed power system by optimizing its operating time. The meshed power system is part of a Brazilian power transmission system, which has been evaluated via CAPE (Computer-Aided Protection Engineering) software for short circuit studies.

The evolutionary algorithm EPSO to coordinate directional overcurrent relays
10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010The goal of this paper is to coordinate directional overcurrent relays using the Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) Algorithm. EPSO Algorithm has gained a lot of interest for its simplicity, robustness and easy implementation. Coordinate directional overcurrent relays on a meshed network deals with a large volume of data, with many ...

Design and implementation of a versatile digital directional overcurrent relay
Electric Power Systems Research, 1990Abstract This paper presents the design and implementation of a versatile digital directional overcurrent relay. The problem of approximating the time-current characteristic curves of an overcurrent relay is addressed. These curves are approximated by piecewise quadratic polynominals whose coefficients are calculated using a weighted least-squares ...

INTEGRATED SOFTWARE FOR OPTIMAL DIRECTIONAL OVERCURRENT RELAY COORDINATION
Electric Machines & Power Systems, 1994ABSTRACT This paper reports the development of fully integrated software for the optimal directional overcurrent relay coordination of interconnected power systems. Different software packages like load flow analysis, fault analysis, determination of backup/primary relay pairs, main relay coordination program, etc. have been integrated.

A novel problem formulation for directional overcurrent relay coordination
2004 Large Engineering Systems Conference on Power Engineering (IEEE Cat. No.04EX819), 2004In general, directional overcurrent relays allow for continuous time dial settings but discrete pickup current settings. All previous work formulates the coordination problem either as a linear programming problem or as a nonlinear programming problem.

Optimal coordination of microprocessor based directional overcurrent relays
2008 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2008The paper presents a new problem formulation for coordinating microprocessor based directional overcurrent relays in an interconnected power system. Unlike previous formulations, the proposed problem formulation takes into account the discrete nature of pickup current settings and the available time-current characteristics of the relay.
