Optimal Directional Overcurrent Relays Coordination using Directional Bat Algorithm
2019 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America), 2019Coordination of directional overcurrent relays is most often made based on manual procedures. However, due to its complexity and time-consuming, these procedures have been formulated as an optimization problem. The aim of this paper is to present a directional Bat Algorithm (dBA) as a potential algorithm for optimal coordination of directional ...

Optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays
2018The coordination between DOCRs is nonlinear and highly constrained optimization problem in which two settings, namely, TDS and PCS of each relay are considered as decision variables. The main objective is to minimize the sum of OTs of all the primary relays, which are expected to operate in order to clear the faults of their corresponding zones.

Protection coordination of directional overcurrent relays considering fault current direction
IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, Europe, 2014Directional inverse time overcurrent relays are used in protection systems of meshed networks to operate for fault currents in its forward zone of operation. They are used for primary and backup protection and their operation needs to be coordinated to assure selectivity.

Smart distribution protection using current-only directional overcurrent relay
2010 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT Europe), 2010Overcurrent relays are widely used for power systems protection. Transmission side uses more directional type relays, while distribution systems, e.g., radial and ring-main subtransmission systems use non-directional types. The fault direction may be forward (between relay and grid), or reverse (between relay and source), the normal power flow being ...

Dual-Setting Directional Overcurrent Relays for Protecting Automated Distribution Networks
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2019This paper elaborates a new protection scheme based on dual-setting DOCRs for automated distribution networks. In this course, the reduction in relays operation time saturates as the number of these relays increases. Thus, optimal deployment of dual-setting DOCRs should be specified in an efficient manner.

Modified water cycle algorithm for optimal direction overcurrent relays coordination
Applied Soft Computing, 2019Abstract The optimization model of Directional Over Current Relays (DOCRs) coordination is considered non-linear optimization problem with a large number of operating constraints. This paper proposes a modified version for Water Cycle Algorithm (WCA), referred to as MWCA to effectively solve the optimal coordination problem of DOCRs. The main goal is

Improved group search optimization algorithm for coordination of directional overcurrent relays
Swarm and Evolutionary Computation, 2015Abstract In this study, coordination of directional overcurrent relays in power systems is formulated as an optimization problem. The objective is to find out an optimum setting of relays in order to minimize the operating time of relays for faults at their primary protection zone, while coordinating the relays properly. The coordination is performed
