Disc Brake Squeal: Diagnosis and Prevention
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003<div class="htmlview paragraph">In the last thirty years the automotive industry has seen the transition from drum brakes to disc brakes. This transition was made with the intent of improving performance and reducing mass. Concurrent with this transition has been an all out effort to improve both quality and perceived quality of automobiles.

Analysis of Disc Brake Squeal, 1992
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">Eliminating squeal noise generated during braking is an important task for the improvement of vehicle passengers' comfort. Considerable amount of research and development works have been done on the problem to date.

An Analysis of Disc Brake Squeal
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1978<div class="htmlview paragraph">A squeal model for a proprietary fixed caliper disc brake is proposed which includes mass and stiffness parameters and allows for variations in the contact configuration of the pad and piston. The predicted and observed trends in squeal behaviour are shown to be in good agreement.</div>

An experimental study of disc brake squeal
2023Disc brake vibrations are a cause of concern for automobile users and manufacturers. The user can find the noise of brake squeal annoying and sometimes worrying. The manufacturer suffers the immediate costs involved in vehicle warranty claims and may lose sales if a particular vehicle model develops a reputation for noise problems.

Disc Brake Squeal – An Experimental Approach
Materials Science Forum, 2003The phenomenon of squeal in disc brakes has been, and still is, a problem for the automotive industry. Extensive research has been done in an attempt to understand the mechanisms that cause it and in developing design procedures to reduce it to make vehicles more comfortable.

Influence of Pads and Brake Disc wear on Brake Squeal Noise
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2020<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The present work aims to investigate the influence of wear of the pads and brake disc on the brake squeal behavior with the help of the Finite Element tool. Brake discs basically work by the pressure of the brake pads against a rotating disc. The friction between the pads and the

A Mechanism of Disc-Brake Squeal
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1977<div class="htmlview paragraph">Further results, obtained from a pin-disc system, are presented which support the theory that the generation of squeal noise in disc-brakes is caused by a geometrically induced or kinematic constraint instability. The unstable regions are shown to be dependent on the coefficient of friction between the interacting ...

Disc Brake Squeal: An Overview
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007<div class="htmlview paragraph">Understanding, reducing, eliminating and preventing brake squeal is a challenging task. It involves many design variables in a complex brake system and there are many harsh operational and environmental conditions under which squeal may occur. Much progress has been made on understanding brake squeal mechanisms and

A Study on Trigger of Disc Brake Squeal Generation
SAE International Journal of Passenger Cars - Mechanical Systems, 2015<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">It is well known that disc brake squeal is often caused by high friction coefficient pad materials. Disc brake squeal is caused by dynamic unstable system under small disturbance of friction force variation.

Evaluation of Disc Brake Materials for Squeal Reduction
Tribology Transactions, 2011A nontraditional evaluation tool is introduced to examine the effects of different materials, in practical applications, that are used in fabricating disc brake components for commonly used or special requirements such as heavy-duty performance and racing cars. As an extension to earlier finite element (FE) disc brake models, a detailed FE model of the
