Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Bioevaluation of antibacterial potential of Sarpgandha (Rauwolfia serpentina)

open access: yesEnvironment Conservation Journal, 2009
The  in vitro  antibacterial  activity of Rauwolfia serpentina  plant  extract has been  investigated against  Escherichia  coli, Staphylococcus  aureus,  Salmonella  typhi and  Klebsiella  pneumoniae using the  disc  diffusion  method.  The  alcoholic

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Performance of disc diffusion and E-test on different Muller-Hinton agar media plates and ComASPⓇ and Bruker UMICⓇ Cefiderocol Microdilution Panels for Cefiderocol susceptibility testing in carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
BACKGROUND: Cefiderocol is effective against carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) and requires standardized iron concentrations for accurate susceptibility testing. This study evaluated the performance of two commercial broth microdilution (

The hot corrosion of nickel-base disc alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The efficiency of a jet’s engines has a direct affect on its economic and environmental impact through the quantity of aviation fuel consumed and CO2 emitted.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
