An assessment of discarded catches from the bottom pair trawling fishery in southern Brazil

open access: yesMarine and Fishery Sciences, 2021
Onboard discards of a fraction of the catch can be considered one of the main issues related to bottom trawling fisheries. The magnitude and composition of the discards still need to be better understood.

Demersal and epibenthic assemblages of trawlable grounds in the northern Alboran Sea (western Mediterranean)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2007
The composition and abundance of megabenthic fauna caught by the commercial trawl fleet in the Alboran Sea were studied. A total of 28 hauls were carried out at depths ranging from 50 to 640 m.

Green processing of seafood waste biomass towards blue economy

open access: yesCurrent Research in Environmental Sustainability, 2022
Seafood production in required quantities is facing increasing pressures due to reasons such as rising population, increasing demand, overfishing, landing of by-catch, climate change-related biodiversity changes, extinction of species and others.

Characterizing the composition of commercial black sea bass (Centropristis striata) catch and discards in the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England regions

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Black sea bass (Centropristis striata) is an abundant fishery species that occupies continental shelf waters from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of Maine.

Trash to Treasure: An Up-to-Date Understanding of the Valorization of Seafood By-Products, Targeting the Major Bioactive Compounds

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2023
Fishery production is exponentially growing, and its by-products negatively impact industries’ economic and environmental status. The large amount of bioactive micro- and macromolecules in fishery by-products, including lipids, proteins, peptides, amino ...

Unstable particle's wave-function renormalization prescription [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We strictly define two set Wave-function Renormalization Constants (WRC) under the LSZ reduction formula for unstable particles at the first time.

An assessment of scup (Stenotomus chrysops) and black sea bass (Centropristas striata) discards in the directed otter trawl fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic Bight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This study was undertaken to re-assess the level of scup (Stenotomus chrysops) discards by weight and to evaluate the effect of various codend mesh sizes on the level of scup discards in the winter-trawl scup fishery. Scup discards were high in directed

Novel method for valorization of by-products from carrot discards

open access: yesLWT, 2019
Large quantities of carrots are annually discarded in different parts of the world because they do not meet market standards. Besides the economic loss to the producers, the discard poses an environmental problem.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Reconstructing past fisheries catches for large pelagic species in the Indian Ocean

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Comprehensive catch data are fundamental to support the sustainable management of large pelagic fisheries. However, catch data reported by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) on behalf of its member countries currently under-represent the extent of ...
