An assessment of discarded catches from the bottom pair trawling fishery in southern Brazil
Onboard discards of a fraction of the catch can be considered one of the main issues related to bottom trawling fisheries. The magnitude and composition of the discards still need to be better understood.

An assessment of scup (Stenotomus chrysops) and black sea bass (Centropristas striata) discards in the directed otter trawl fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic Bight [PDF]
This study was undertaken to re-assess the level of scup (Stenotomus chrysops) discards by weight and to evaluate the effect of various codend mesh sizes on the level of scup discards in the winter-trawl scup fishery. Scup discards were high in directed

Novel method for valorization of by-products from carrot discards
Large quantities of carrots are annually discarded in different parts of the world because they do not meet market standards. Besides the economic loss to the producers, the discard poses an environmental problem.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Reconstructing past fisheries catches for large pelagic species in the Indian Ocean
Comprehensive catch data are fundamental to support the sustainable management of large pelagic fisheries. However, catch data reported by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) on behalf of its member countries currently under-represent the extent of ...
