Robust Unidirectional Airflow through Avian Lungs: New Insights from a Piecewise Linear Mathematical Model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2016
Avian lungs are remarkably different from mammalian lungs in that air flows unidirectionally through rigid tubes in which gas exchange occurs. Experimental observations have been able to determine the pattern of gas flow in the respiratory system, but ...

Existence theory for a class of evolutionary equations with time-lag, studied via integral equation formulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In discussions of certain neutral delay differential equations in Hale’s form, the relationship of the original problem with an integrated form (an integral equation) proves to be helpful in considering existence and uniqueness of a solution and ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Stretching the Printability Metric in Direct‐Ink Writing with Highly Extensible Yield‐Stress Fluids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces “drawability” as a new metric for assessing printability in direct‐ink writing, focusing on gap‐spanning performance and speed robustness. By designing yield‐stress fluids with high extensibility, we demonstrate that extensional strain‐to‐break significantly enhances printability.

Double-slit and electromagnetic models to complete quantum mechanics

open access: yes, 2017
We analyze a realistic microscopic model for electronic scattering with the neutral differential delay equations of motion of point charges of the Wheeler-Feynman electrodynamics.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

A hybrid fixed point theorem for product of two operators in a lattice-ordered Banach algebra with applications to quadratic integral equations

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis
We prove a hybrid fixed point theorem for the product of two operators in a latticeordered Banach algebra and apply to nonlinear hybrid quadratic integral equations of mixed type for proving the existence of maximal and minimal positive integrable ...

Dynamical Systems with Discontinuous Solutions and Problems with Unbounded Derivatives

open access: yesИзвестия Иркутского государственного университета: Серия "Математика", 2017
V. I. Gurman suggested a description of discontinuous solutions in terms of systems with unbounded derivatives. The idea was in the usage of an auxiliary system of ordinary differential equations including the recession cone of the velocities set. It was

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.

Pattern formation in a diffusion-ODE model with hysteresis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Coupling diffusion process of signaling molecules with nonlinear interactions of intracellular processes and cellular growth/transformation leads to a system of reaction-diffusion equations coupled with ordinary differential equations (diffusion-ODE ...
