Planar systems of piecewise linear differential equations with a line of discontinuity

Nonlinearity, 2001
The authors study dynamical properties of the planar system \[ \dot u= Au+sgn( w^{T}u) v, \] where \(A\) is a real \(2\times 2\)-matrix and \(u, v, w\) are two-dimensional real vectors. The dependence on the system parameters \(A,v\) and \(w,\) including the existence of periodic solutions with sliding motion, is analyzed.

Limit Cycles of Three‐Dimensional Discontinuous Piecewise Differential Systems Separated by Quadric Surfaces

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences
ABSTRACTDetermining the maximum number of crossing limit cycles remains among the most challenging problems in the qualitative theory of piecewise linear differential systems. This study examines this issue by investigating systems in consisting of an arbitrary 3D linear center and an arbitrary 3D linear differential system, separated by quadric ...

Limit Cycles in Discontinuous Planar Piecewise Differential Systems with Multiple Nonlinear Switching Curves

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems
The authors consider discontinuous piecewise quadratic polynomial differential systems with four zones separated by two nonlinear curves, that are small perturbations of the linear center. They analyse the first and second order averaging functions, providing in this way bounds for the number of crossing limit cycles.

Four Limit Cycles of Three-Dimensional Discontinuous Piecewise Differential Systems Having a Sphere as Switching Manifold

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos
Because of their applications, the study of piecewise-linear differential systems has become increasingly important in recent years. This type of system already exists to model many different natural phenomena in physics, biology, economics, etc. As is well known, the study of the qualitative theory of piecewise differential systems focuses mainly on ...
