Discrete event control of nondeterministic systems

open access: yesProceedings of 35th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1998
Summary: Nondeterminism in discrete-event systems occurs in many practical situations and often as a result of partial observability of events. For the adequate description of nondeterministic systems and nondeterministic phenomena, the trajectory-model formalism was introduced. This formalism has been used in [\textit{M. Shayman} and \textit{R. Kumar},

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

A Numerical Study of Quantization-Based Integrators

open access: yesITM Web of Conferences, 2014
Adaptive step size solvers are nowadays considered fundamental to achieve efficient ODE integration. While, traditionally, ODE solvers have been designed based on discrete time machines, new approaches based on discrete event systems have been proposed ...

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Critical Observability Enforcement in Discrete Event Systems Using Differential Privacy

open access: yesMathematics
In the context of discrete event systems (DESs), critical states usually refer to a system configuration of interest, describing certain important system properties, e.g., fault diagnosability, state/language opacity, and state/event concealment ...

Distributed Modeling of Discrete Event Systems

open access: yes, 2012
Computer simulation is widely used to support the design of any kind of complex system and to create computer-generated "virtual worlds" where humans and/or physical devices are embedded (e.g. aircraft flight simulators [20]). However, both the generation of simulation models and the execution of simulations can be time and cost expensive.
