Raising and lowering operators, factorization and differential/difference operators of hypergeometric type

open access: yes, 2004
Starting from Rodrigues formula we present a general construction of raising and lowering operators for orthogonal polynomials of continuous and discrete variable on uniform lattice.

Unraveling the Effect of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations in Steels by Combining CALPHAD Modeling and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how tramp elements from increased scrap usage influence phase transformations in low‐alloyed steel. Combining dilatometry and microscopy reveal that tramp elements delay transformations, reduce critical cooling rates and increase hardenability.

An Adaptive Quantum-inspired Differential Evolution Algorithm for 0-1 Knapsack Problem

open access: yes, 2010
Differential evolution (DE) is a population based evolutionary algorithm widely used for solving multidimensional global optimization problems over continuous spaces. However, the design of its operators makes it unsuitable for many real-life constrained

Positivity and discrete spectra for differential operators

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1982
In this paper the author deals with differential expressions of the form \(Ly=\sum^{n}_{j=0}(-1)^ j(p_ jy^{(j)})^{(j)}.\) For an interval \(I=[a,b)\), he considers an operator T defined by \(Tf=w^{-1}Lf\) where w is positive, locally Lebesgue integrable on I and \(f\in L^ 2_ w\) (the Hilbert space with inner product \((f,g)_ w=\int^{b}_{a}f\bar gw ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Single channel medical images enhancement using fractional derivatives.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The current research uses the Grünwald-Letnikov (GL) fractional differential mask to improve satellite and medical images. One of the important image enhancement methods in digital image processing is texture enhancement.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Algorithm for determining two-periodic steady-states in AC machines directly in time domain

open access: yesArchives of Electrical Engineering, 2016
This paper describes an algorithm for finding steady states in AC machines for the cases of their two-periodic nature. The algorithm enables to specify the steady-state solution identified directly in time domain despite of the fact that two-periodic ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Spectral asymptotics via the semiclassical Birkhoff normal form

open access: yes, 2006
This article gives a simple treatment of the quantum Birkhoff normal form for semiclassical pseudo-differential operators with smooth coefficients. The normal form is applied to describe the discrete spectrum in a generalised non-degenerate potential ...
