Modelling of woven fabrics with the Discrete Element Method
The mechanical behaviour of woven fabrics is dominated by the kinematics of the constituents on the microscopic scale. Their macroscopic response usually shows non-linearities which are due to the mobility of the interlaced yarns. The major deformation mechanisms of fabrics, i.e.

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Materials with obvious internal structure can exhibit behaviour, under loading, that cannot be described by classical elasticity. It is therefore important to develop computational tools incorporating appropriate constitutive theories that can capture ...

Assessment of the in-plane capacity of masonry walls with the Hybrid Discrete-Finite Element Method
The most widespread numerical simulation method for structural response is undoubtedly the Finite Element Method (FEM). However, despite being powerful for modelling continuous structures, it is not fit for handling strong discontinuities.

This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Fluid Properties Effects on Sand Production using Discrete Element Method
Oil production may be accompanied by Sand Production (SP) in the weak sandstone reservoirs. Fluid flow is an important factor in transporting the separated grains and completing the SP mechanism. In this paper, the effect of fluid parameters, fluid flow,

New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

An hp-version discontinuous Galerkin method for integro-differential equations of parabolic type
We study the numerical solution of a class of parabolic integro-differential equations with weakly singular kernels. We use an $hp$-version discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method for the discretization in time.
