DISCRETE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
Engineering Computations, 1992A numerical technique is described for the analysis of multiple interacting deformable bodies undergoing large displacements and rotations. Each body is considered an individual discrete unit, which is idealized by a finite element model. Discrete finite element models interact with their surroundings through contact stresses, which are continually ...

Engineering Computations, 2004
Discrete element method (DEM) has been extensively used in the laboratory of particulate and multiphase processing at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to study the fundamentals of particulate matter at a particle scale. This paper briefly reviews the work in the laboratory, which covers the development of simulation techniques and their ...

Experimental Methods in Chemical Engineering: Discrete Element Method—DEM
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2019The discrete element method (DEM) is a time‐driven simulation technique based on a Lagrangian description of particle motion that predicts the flow of granular matter and fine powders in conveying, mixing, drying, and heterogeneous gas‐(liquid)‐solids reactors.

DISCRETE ELEMENT METHOD FOR MULTISCALE MODELING
Journal of Multiscale Modelling, 2010A discrete element method (DEM) has been developed to provide highly accurate and detailed predictions of the Lagrangian particle phase. Especially in this study, DEM has been used together with an Eulerian approach for the fluid phase to look at interphase exchange phenomena in a multiphase-multiscale modeling approach.

Discrete Element Method for Slope Stability Analysis
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1992Limit equilibrium methods for slope stability analysis do not, in general, satisfy the overall equilibrium conditions; they must make assumptions regarding the inclination and location of the interslice forces. An alternative slope analysis based on the discrete element method is presented to avoid these drawbacks.

Input Parameters of Discrete Element Methods
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2006This paper presents a sensitivity analysis of the input parameters of a program based on the discrete element method (DEM). Triaxial compression simulations were conducted on an assembly of ellipsoids with two particle shapes. We examine four input parameters including shear modulus of particles, density of particles, time step, and damping. Generally,

Discrete element method study of abrasion
Minerals Engineering, 2008Abstract Abrasion is a surface breakage event where irregular surfaces of particles are removed. In other words, in milling it is the process which produces sphere like particles by comminuting asperities. Extensive experimental work has been performed to study abrasion events and their process parameters.

Discrete Elements Method of Neutron Transport
Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1988In this paper a new neutron transport method, called discrete elements (L/sub N/) is derived and compared to discrete ordinates methods, theoretically and by numerical experimentation. The discrete elements method is based on discretizing the Boltzmann equation over a set of elements of angle.
