Dynamic mesh refinement for discrete models of jet electro-hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2016
Nowadays, several models of unidimensional fluid jets exploit discrete element methods. In some cases, as for models aiming at describing the electrospinning nanofabrication process of polymer fibers, discrete element methods suffer a non constant ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Simulation of Track-Soft Soil Interactions Using a Discrete Element Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
With the development of unmanned tracked vehicles, soil model predictions of soft terrains are becoming more essential. In order to accurately simulate the interaction characteristics between soil particles and the track, soil modeling with a discrete ...

A Note on Symplectic, Multisymplectic Scheme in Finite Element Method

open access: yes, 2001
We find that with uniform mesh, the numerical schemes derived from finite element method can keep a preserved symplectic structure in one-dimensional case and a preserved multisymplectic structure in two-dimentional case in certain discrete version ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Numerical prediction of dynamic stability loss of a flexible cylindrical shell in a granular medium [PDF]

open access: yesBiuletyn Wojskowej Akademii Technicznej, 2019
The paper presents an application of the discrete element method for an analysis of dynamical stability loss of the flexible cylindrical shell section interacting with a model granular medium.

A note of pointwise estimates on Shishkin meshes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We propose the estimates of the discrete Green function for the stream- line diffusion finite element method (SDFEM) on Shishkin meshes.Comment: 10pages, 1 ...

The nonconforming virtual element method for eigenvalue problems

open access: yes, 2018
We analyse the nonconforming Virtual Element Method (VEM) for the approximation of elliptic eigenvalue problems. The nonconforming VEM allow to treat in the same formulation the two- and three-dimensional case.We present two possible formulations of the ...

Advances in Discretization Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This book gathers selected contributions on emerging research work presented at the International Conference eXtended Discretization MethodS (X-DMS), held in Ferrara in September 2015. It highlights the most relevant advances made at the international level in the context of expanding classical discretization methods, like finite elements, to the ...
