Simulating non-Markovian stochastic processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a simple and general framework to simulate statistically correct realizations of a system of non-Markovian discrete stochastic processes.

Event-Triggered Continuous-Discrete Kalman Filter With Controllable Estimation Error

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In this paper, we first study the event-triggered continuous-discrete Kalman filtering problem to control the MSE under a given triggering threshold, where if the mean squared error (MSE) is smaller than this threshold, then an event is triggered to let ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Supervisory Control for Behavior Composition

open access: yes, 2016
We relate behavior composition, a synthesis task studied in AI, to supervisory control theory from the discrete event systems field. In particular, we show that realizing (i.e., implementing) a target behavior module (e.g., a house surveillance system ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Discrete events: Perspectives from system theory [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly, 1988
Summary: Mathematical system theory has traditionally been concerned with differential or difference equations. Recently, however, there has been increasing interest of system theorists for `discrete event systems', whose evolution in time is marked by the occurrence of `events' (arrivals of messages or customers, completion of tasks, etc.). Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Characterization of Clinical Phenotype to Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Concentrations in Alexander Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine the concentration of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma in Alexander disease (AxD) and whether GFAP levels are predictive of disease phenotypes. Methods CSF and plasma were collected (longitudinally when available) from AxD participants and non‐AxD controls.

Influence of Input/output Operations on Processor Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nowadays, computers are frequently equipped with peripherals that transfer great amounts of data between them and the system memory using direct memory access techniques (i.e., digital cameras, high speed networks, . . . ).
