The geometry and combinatorics of discrete line segment hypergraphs [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2020
An $r$-segment hypergraph $H$ is a hypergraph whose edges consist of $r$ consecutive integer points on line segments in $\mathbb{R}^2$. In this paper, we bound the chromatic number $χ(H)$ and covering number $τ(H)$ of hypergraphs in this family, uncovering several interesting geometric properties in the process.

Discrete Gradient Line Fields on Surfaces

open access: yesCoRR, 2017
A line field on a manifold is a smooth map which assigns a tangent line to all but a finite number of points of the manifold. As such, it can be seen as a generalization of vector fields. They model a number of geometric and physical properties, e.g. the principal curvature directions dynamics on surfaces or the stress flux in elasticity.

Frontal EEG Asymmetry and Middle Line Power Difference in Discrete Emotions

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2018
A traditional model of emotion cannot explain the differences in brain activities between two discrete emotions that are similar in the valence-arousal coordinate space.

Accurate Frequency Estimator of Sinusoid Based on Interpolation of FFT and DTFT

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
An accurate frequency estimator of complex sinusoid in additive white noise is proposed. It is based on interpolation of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Discrete-Time Fourier Transform (DTFT).

The Solvability of the Discrete Boundary Value Problem on the Half-Line

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
This paper provides conditions for the existence of a solution to the second-order nonlinear boundary value problem on the half-line of the form Δa(n)Δx(n)=f(n+1,x(n+1),Δx(n+1)),n∈N∪{0}, with αx(0)+βa(0)Δx(0)=0,x(∞)=d, where d,α,β∈R, α2+β2>0.

Discrete Optimization of Weighting Factor in Model Predictive Control of Induction Motor

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society, 2023
Tuning the weighting factor is crucial to model predictive torque and flux control. A finite set of discrete weighting factors is utilized in this research to determine the optimum solution.

A Discrete Transmission Line Model for Discrete-time Quantum Walks

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Information Sciences, 2017
Summary: Based on the similarity between telegraph equation for transmission lines and Klein-Gordon equation, we have related a distributed element model in electrical engineering to a discrete-time quantum walk through Dirac equation. As a result, we have constructed a discrete transmission line model for a discrete-time quantum walk, and it enables ...

ESTIMATING TORSION OF DIGITAL CURVES USING 3D IMAGE ANALYSIS

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2016
Curvature and torsion of three-dimensional curves are important quantities in fields like material science or biomedical engineering. Torsion has an exact definition in the continuous domain.
