Stress History Establishes a Transient Tolerant State That Shapes Antibiotic Survival Upon Resuscitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput single‐cell analysis of resuscitating bacteria reveals a starvation‐history‐dependent transiently tolerant subpopulation that survives β$\beta$‐lactam exposure by temporarily reducing growth. Distinct from classical persisters, these actively growing yet dynamically modulated cells dominate survival across clinically relevant antibiotic

Secure Authenticated Post-Quantum Key Agreement Scheme Based on Ring Learning with Errors for Cyber-Physical Power System

open access: yesElectrica
The integration of communication technologies has made authentication a crucial security element in the cyberphysical power system (CPPS) scenario. Since it offers a range of security services, such as credentials privacy, session-key (SK) security, and

Selective Inhibition of Integrin β3 Topology Provides a Safer Antithrombotic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitors effectively reduce thrombosis but also increase bleeding risk. During thrombosis, high shear blood flow can directly activate the integrin αIIbβ3 via a distinct topological change in the β3 transmembrane domain, independent of hemostatic platelet signaling.

Streptavidins Coordinate Biotin Sequestration and Self‐Resistance Within a Biotin‐Pathway Antibiotic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conserved genomic region between two streptavidin genes in Streptomyces packages biosynthetic gene clusters for diverse biotin‐pathway antibiotics: acidomycin, stravidin, the new non‐proteinogenic amino acid ANDA, and the new BioA inhibitor α‐methyl‐KAPA.

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Integer Factorization and Computing Discrete Logarithms in Maple

open access: yes, 2008
have investigated algorithms for integer factorization and computing discrete logarithms. We have implemented a quadratic sieve algorithm for integer factorization in Maple to replace Maple’s implementation of the ...

Modifying Shor’s algorithm to compute short discrete logarithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We revisit Shor\u27s algorithm for computing discrete logarithms in the multiplicative group of GF(p) on a quantum computer and modify it to compute logarithms d in groups of prime order q in the special case where d

Toward Prostate Cancer Early Warning with a Self‐Powered Wearable Biosensing Platform Integrated with Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current prostate cancer detection methods remain limited in non‐invasiveness and specificity, prompting interest in urinary biomarkers such as sarcosine. Here, we report a urine‐powered wearable platform for non‐invasive sarcosine detection as a proof‐of‐concept for decentralized early warning.

A Publicly Verifiable Authenticated Encryption Scheme Based on Factoring and Discrete Logarithms

open access: yes, 2017
[[abstract]]In this article, we propose a publicly verifiable authenticated encryption scheme based on factoring and discrete logarithms. We point out that even if either factoring or discrete logarithms is broken, this scheme still could keep the ...
