Note—Operations Sequencing in Discrete Parts Manufacturing [PDF]
This paper presents an algorithm for efficiently sequencing the cutting operations associated with the manufacture of discrete parts on a CNC machine. The problem is first modeled as an integer program but recast via Lagrangian relaxation as a min-cut problem on a bipartite network. Tight lower bounds are obtained with a max-flow algorithm.

Stepwise identification of automated discrete manufacturing systems [PDF]
This paper deals with the identification of discrete event systems that are automated through a programmable logic controller (PLC). The behavior of the closed loop system (PLC and Plant) is observed during its operation and is represented by a single long sequence of input/output vectors.

A Price-Based Demand Response Scheme for Discrete Manufacturing in Smart Grids
Demand response (DR) is a key technique in smart grid (SG) technologies for reducing energy costs and maintaining the stability of electrical grids. Since manufacturing is one of the major consumers of electrical energy, implementing DR in factory energy
