Exploiting semantic information in a spiking neural SLAM system

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2023
To navigate in new environments, an animal must be able to keep track of its position while simultaneously creating and updating an internal map of features in the environment, a problem formulated as simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) in the ...

Discrete map with memory from fractional differential equation of arbitrary positive order [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2009
Derivatives of fractional order with respect to time describe long-term memory effects. Using nonlinear differential equation with Caputo fractional derivative of arbitrary order α>0, we obtain discrete maps with power-law memory. These maps are generalizations of well-known universal map.

A Sparse, Spatially Biased Subtype of Mature Granule Cell Dominates Recruitment in Hippocampal-Associated Behaviors

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: Animals can store information about experiences by activating specific neuronal populations, and subsequent reactivation of these neural ensembles can lead to recall of salient experiences.

Altered Hippocampal-Prefrontal Neural Dynamics in Mouse Models of Down Syndrome

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: Altered neural dynamics in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus may contribute to cognitive impairments in the complex chromosomal disorder Down syndrome (DS). Here, we demonstrate non-overlapping behavioral differences associated

Driven Disordered Systems Approach to Biological Evolution in Changing Environments

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2022
Biological evolution of a population is governed by the fitness landscape, which is a map from genotype to fitness. However, a fitness landscape depends on the organism’s environment, and evolution in changing environments is still poorly understood.

Investigation of the Effect of Laser Fluence on Microstructure and Martensitic Transformation for Realizing Functionally Graded NiTi Shape Memory Alloy via Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Nowadays, additive manufacturing (AM) of NiTi shape memory alloy is a challenging topic for the realization of 3D functional parts. Particularly, Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) of NiTi powder is one of the most challenging processes belonging to AM ...

Toward a memory model for autonomous topological mapping and navigation: The case of binary sensors and discrete actions

open access: yes2012 50th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2012
We propose a self-organizing database for perceptual experience capable of supporting autonomous goal-directed planning. The main contributions are: (i) a formal demonstration that the database is complex enough in principle to represent the homotopy type of the sensed environment; (ii) some initial steps toward a formal demonstration that the database

Prehensile and Non-Prehensile Robotic Pick-and-Place of Objects in Clutter Using Deep Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In this study, we develop a framework for an intelligent and self-supervised industrial pick-and-place operation for cluttered environments. Our target is to have the agent learn to perform prehensile and non-prehensile robotic manipulations to improve ...

Robust synchronization of a class of coupled delayed networks with multiple stochastic disturbances: The continuous-time case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, the robust synchronization problem is investigated for a new class of continuous-time complex networks that involve parameter uncertainties, time-varying delays, constant and delayed couplings, as well as multiple stochastic disturbances.
