Benchmarking Memory Management Capabilities within ROOT-Sim [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In parallel discrete event simulation techniques, the simulation model is partitioned into objects, concurrently executing events on different CPUs and/or multiple CPUCores. In such a context, run-time supports for logical time synchronization across the

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

A multi-scale path-planning method for large-scale scenes based on a framed scale-elastic grid map

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth
Environment modeling serves as the foundation for path planning in unmanned systems. Single-scale maps have many nodes and impose large memory requirements; tree-based multi-scale grid maps used for representing large-scale urban scenes have limited ...

Shortest path or anchor-based route choice: a large-scale empirical analysis of minicab routing in London [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Understanding and modelling route choice behaviour is central to predicting the formation and propagation of urban road congestion. Yet within conventional literature disagreements persist around the nature of route choice behaviour, and how it should be

Memristor‐Driven Active‐Matrix Organic Light‐Emitting Diode for Energy Efficient and High‐Resolution Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that memristors can replace conventional 2T–1C driving circuits with simplified 1T–1 m architectures by exploiting resistance switching. With ultra‐low switching voltages (< ±0.2 V) and multi‐level resistance states, the memristors precisely control the current injected into organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Identification of Dynamical Models of Spatio-temporal Pattern Formation with Applications to Slime Mould [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Spatio-temporal systems are non-linear dynamical systems which include both time and space information. Many natural phenomena and processes can be described by spatio-temporal models, such as pattern formation, chemical reactions and physical dynamics ...

A biologically inspired computational vision front-end based on a self-organised pseudo-randomly tessellated artificial retina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper considers the construction of a biologically inspired front-end for computer vision based on an artificial retina pyramid with a self-organised pseudo-randomly tessellated receptive field tessellation.

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights
