Absolute stability of a class of fractional positive nonlinear systems
The positivity and absolute stability of a class of fractional nonlinear continuous-time and discrete-time systems are addressed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity of this class of nonlinear systems are established.

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Generalized observer forms for discrete-time nonlinear systems [PDF]
The paper addresses the problem of transforming single-output discrete-time state equations into the generalized observer form, which comprises a linear observable component and a nonlinear injection term, depending on the inputs, output, and a finite ...

Effects of disorder on the wave front depinning transition in spatially discrete systems [PDF]
Pinning and depinning of wave fronts are ubiquitous features of spatially discrete systems describing a host of phenomena in physics, biology, etc. A large class of discrete systems is described by overdamped chains of nonlinear oscillators with nearest ...

New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Nonlocal Improvement of Controls in Nonlinear Discrete Systems
A nonlinear optimal control problem for discrete system with both control function and control parameters (parameters are at the system's right side and at the initial condition) is considered.

Nonparametric Uncertainty Quantification for Stochastic Gradient Flows [PDF]
This paper presents a nonparametric statistical modeling method for quantifying uncertainty in stochastic gradient systems with isotropic diffusion. The central idea is to apply the diffusion maps algorithm to a training data set to produce a stochastic ...

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Descriptor standard and positive discrete-time nonlinear systems
A method of analysis of descriptor nonlinear discrete-time systems with regular pencils of linear part is proposed. The method is based on the Weierstrass-Kronecker decomposition of the pencils.
