Multiomics Analyses Reveal an Essential Role of Tryptophan in Treatment of csDMARDs in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease characterized by joint inflammation. Approximately 50% of patients show insufficient response to traditional synthetic disease‐modifying antirheumatic drugs. This study aims to elucidate differential molecular profiles of the mechanisms underlying drug responses through multi‐omics strategy.

The Discriminant Analysis Used by the IRS to Predict Profitable Individual Tax Return Audits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper discusses past and current methods the IRS uses to determine which individual income tax returns to audit. The IRS currently uses the discriminant function to give all individual tax returns two scores; one based on whether it should be ...

Statistical discrimination [PDF]

open access: yesThe Philosophers' Magazine, 2016
Racial discrimination uses race as grounds to discriminate in the treatment owed to others; sexual discrimination uses people's sexual features as grounds for determining how they should be treated compared to others. Analogously, statistical discrimination treats statistical inferences about the groups to which individuals belong as grounds for ...

Indole‐3‐Propionic Acid Improves Alveolar Development Impairment via Targeting VAMP8‐mediated SNAREs Complex Formation in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the impact of the tryptophan‐derived metabolite indole‐3‐propionic acid (IPA) on lung development and autophagic flux. IPA alleviates hyperoxia‐induced alveolar arrest by promoting autophagosome‐lysosome fusion via inhibition of VAMP8 phosphorylation, which is suggestive of a promising therapeutic target of BPD.

Long‐Term Elevated CO2 Improves Soil Health and Rice Yields in Paddy Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Combining the two longest‐running rice free‐air CO2 enrichment experiments with a global data synthesis, this study demonstrates that long‐term elevated CO2 consistently enhances soil health. In rice paddies, this improvement sustains the CO2 fertilization effect over decades.
