Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Discrimination of chemicals via refractive index by EF-FLRD

open access: yesApplied Physics B, 2019
Design and application of an evanescent field fiber loop ring-down (EF-FLRD) spectroscopy system for discrimination of chemicals via their refractive indices are presented. To our knowledge, this is the first system that utilizes visible light. The system employs a broadband laser source at 800 nm at 80 MHz whose pulses were selectively picked by a ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Functional Decline Over 1-year Follow-up in a Multicenter Cohort of Polypathological Patients: A New Approach to Functional Prognostication

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gerontology, 2012
Background: Little is known about the fitness of the available tools in predicting functional decline of polypathological patients (PPs). Our objective was to assess accuracy of the Triage Risk Screening Tool (TRST), the Variable Indicative of Placement ...

Adjusted empirical likelihood estimation of the youden index and associated threshold for the bigamia model [PDF]

open access: yes
The Youden index is a widely used measure in the framework of medical diagnostic, where the effectiveness of a biomarker (screening marker or predictor) for classifying a disease status is studied.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.
