Twinning: Coronary Artery Disease in Monozygotic Twins [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2021
We present the case of a patient whose monozygotic twin brother suffered a fatal myocardial infarction at the age of 40. The patient presented with similar symptoms as his brother. Given the family history, ischemic evaluation was undertaken and revealed similar coronary anatomy and severe coronary artery disease (CAD). We review the current literature

Digital Twins in Radiology

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2022
A digital twin is a virtual model developed to accurately reflect a physical thing or a system. In radiology, a digital twin of a radiological device enables developers to test its characteristics, make alterations to the design or materials, and test ...

Coeliac disease in monozygotic twins [PDF]

open access: greenPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1982
Summary A case of concordance for coeliac disease in monozygous twins is reported. One presented with failure to enter puberty and responded to the exclusion of gluten from her diet. The other twin was asymptomatic. They represent a well documented example of monozygous twins with concordance for coeliac disease.

Concordance and interrelationship of atopic diseases and markers of allergic sensitization among adult female twins

open access: bronzeJournal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2001
BACKGROUND Previous twin studies of asthma and allergy implicate both genetic and environmental factors in disease risk, but few have related the occurrence of clinical disease to objective markers of allergic sensitization in twins.

Multicore disease in twins. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 1976
Multicore disease in identical twin boys presented in infancy as generalized weakness and torticollis. Motor milestones such as sitting, standing, and running were delayed, although by the age of 6 years marked improvement in muscle strength had occurred. Serum enzymes were normal.

A Twin Study of Perthes Disease [PDF]

open access: yesPediatrics, 2016
BACKGROUND: Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is an idiopathic avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Its etiology is poorly understood, although previous studies have implicated low birth weight and possible genetic determinants. The aim of this study was to identify potential birth weight and genetic associations

Transcriptome Profiling Reveals Differential Expression of Circadian Behavior Genes in Peripheral Blood of Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesCells, 2022
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Investigating individuals with the most identical genetic background is optimal for minimizing the genetic contribution to gene expression.

Epigenetic Basis of Twin Discordance in Diseases: Future Benefits

open access: yesGynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine, 2018
Monozygotic twins share the same genotype since they are derived from the same zygote. However, monozygotic (MZ) twin siblings frequently present many phenotypic differences, such as their susceptibilities to diseases.

DNA Methylation Signature in Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Psoriatic Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Background: Psoriatic disease is a multifactorial inflammatory condition spanning from skin and nail psoriasis (Pso) to spine and joint involvement characterizing psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
