A reassessment of spinal cord pathology in severe infantile spinal muscular atrophy
Spinal cord pathology in severe spinal muscular atrophy patients is more widespread than originally described. Motor neuron loss is substantial, remaining ventral horn neurons, and Clarke's column neurons are abnormal but lateral horn neurons are preserved. Grey and white matter and the gross dimensions of the spinal cord are all affected.
