Disequilibrium and variational inequalities
AbstractIn this paper we introduce a new market disequilibrium model in a spatial economic setting, which generalizes a recent spatial disequilibrium model to the asymmetric case. We derive two alternative variational inequality formulations of the market conditions, in the case of price rigidities and/or controls, and discuss existence and uniqueness ...

The delayed surplus response for hops related to market dynamics
The cyclical nature of hop market pricing has been recorded since the 16th century, but the effect had never previously been documented or quantified. Using Bayesian inference in an analysis of data regarding the US hop industry collected and published ...

Genetic diversity and population structure of the Taigan dog breed
The Taigan is a rare sighthound from the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. We used DNA markers to study its genetic diversity and compare it with other sighthound breeds. Our findings show that the Taigan shares close genetic ties with the Kazakh Tazy, suggesting a common ancestry shaped by nomadic traditions and regional adaptation.

Exploring Order–Disorder Transitions Using a Two-State Master Equation
In this study, we explore the order–disorder transition in the dynamics of a straightforward master equation that describes the evolution of a probability distribution between two states, p1 and p2 (with p1+p2=1).

Distances in Probability Space and the Statistical Complexity Setup
Statistical complexity measures (SCM) are the composition of two ingredients: (i) entropies and (ii) distances in probability-space. In consequence, SCMs provide a simultaneous quantification of the randomness and the correlational structures present in ...

Axel Leijonhufvud: A personal recollection from an Austrian perspective
Professor Axel Leijonhufvud passed away few months ago, at the age of 89. Despite the fact that the contribution he made to economics has been widely recognized, his approach remains ‘problematic’ because of his dialogue and proximity with different ...

Coffee Consumption Is Associated With Later Age‐at‐Onset of Parkinson's Disease
ABSTRACT Observation studies suggest that coffee consumption may lower the risk and delay the age‐at‐onset (AAO) of Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to explore the causal relationship and genetic association between coffee consumption and the AAO, risk, and progression of PD. Using Mendelian randomization, we identified a significant
