On the Significance of the Thick Disks of Disk Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Thick disks are a prevalent feature observed in numerous disk galaxies, including our own Milky Way. Their significance has been reported to vary widely, ranging from a few percent to 100% of the disk mass, depending on the galaxy and the measurement ...

Bars in Disk-Dominated and Bulge-Dominated Galaxies at z~0: New Insights from ~3600 SDSS Galaxies

open access: yes, 2007
We present a study of large-scale bars in the local Universe, based on a large sample of ~3692 galaxies, with -18.5

Red Thick Disks of Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2005
Edge on systems reveal the properties of disk galaxies as a function of height, z, above the plane. Four local edge-on galaxies, that are close enough to have been resolved into stars by the Hubble Space Telescope, show thick disks, composed of a red stellar population, which is old and relatively metal rich.

Forensic analysis and evaluation of file‐wiping applications in Android OS

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 1, Page 338-352, January 2026.
Abstract Anti‐forensics refers to techniques designed to obstruct the discovery of evidence in digital forensic investigations. File‐wiping is one of the anti‐forensic techniques that make data recovery impossible by overwriting data with specific patterns. This technique poses significant challenges to investigators.

Heavy Metal Contamination in Chocolates and Candies: Sources, Health Risks, and Analytical Insights

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The presence of heavy metals in chocolates and candies poses growing public health concerns, particularly for children who are frequent consumers. This review consolidates evidence on the occurrence, sources, toxicological impacts, and analytical monitoring of metals, including Pb, Cd, Hg, As, Cr, Ni, and Al, in confectionery products.

Conditions for Bar Formation in Bulgeless Disk Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
While bars are commonly observed in disk galaxies, the precise conditions governing their formation remain incompletely understood. To investigate these conditions, we perform a suite of N -body simulations of bulgeless disk galaxies with stellar masses ...

An Optimal Strategy for Accurate Bulge-to-disk Decomposition of Disk Galaxies

open access: yes, 2017
The development of two-dimensional (2D) bulge-to-disk decomposition techniques has shown their advantages over traditional one-dimensional (1D) techniques, especially for galaxies with non-axisymmetric features.

Origin of Non-axisymmetric Features of Virgo Cluster Early-type Dwarf Galaxies. I. Bar Formation and Recurrent Buckling

open access: yes, 2017
A fraction of early-type dwarf galaxies in the Virgo cluster have a disk component and even possess disk features such as bar, lens, and spiral arms.
